About Mr. Carrillo
My name is Roberto Carrillo was the Band teacher at Bessie Rhodes 2012-14, taught woodwinds at Dawes 2012-14, and currently the Orchestra teacher at King Lab, Bessie Rhodes, Lincolnwood, and Co-teacher at Haven Middle School and Washington Elementary.
I have completed my Bachelors Degree at DePaul University with a double major in Music Performance and Music Education and completed my Master’s degree in Music Education at VanderCook College of Music with an emphasis in string education. My principal instrument has been flute where I have been fortunate to have played with the Classical Symphony, the Chicago Businessman’s Orchestra, and Lakeshore Symphony. The first instrument I played, I started in 3rd grade, was the cello and is now one of my primary instruments where I have gotten to play with the Sherwood Conservatory of Music Community Orchestra, Wheaton Symphony, and currently a permanent member of the West Suburban Symphony. I have been fortunate to work with various high school and middle school ensembles in the Chicago-land area and Wisconsin, including having been a guest rehearsal conductor for Midwest Young Artists over various concerts (2013-present).
I love to swim and have grown up as a club swimmer since the age of 6 and swam all the way through High School. Currently a member of U.S. Masters Swimming where I have qualified for nationals, competed in 6 events, and placed 8th in my 400 yd IM in 2010, and competed again in 2013 USMS National Championships. I enjoy running and have done the Chicago Marathon in 2006 along with doing various 5k runs throughout the year. I also enjoy singing and was involved with DePaul Men’s a Cappella during my undergraduate studies.
In fall of 2007, I completed my student teaching for Band under Carey Jacobs at Nichols Middle School, Dewey Elementary, and Washington Elementary schools & under Patrick Pearson in OakPark and River Forest High School. In 2008-2012 I was teaching Band and Orchestra in Lyons, IL where I also had a middle school dance group.
I am looking forward to another great year working in Evanston District 65 and getting to know all my new students, parents, and colleagues. The staff, parents, and students have all been extremely welcoming so far and helpful in getting the year started. I look forward to teaching and starting a wonderful new year in a wonderful place and anticipate an excellent school year.
